Roofline is the fascia, soffit, bargeboard, guttering, downpipe, and dry verge system running along the edge of your roof. Together, these components protect roof timbers from damp, manage rainwater, support roof ventilation, and give your home a neat, finished edge. Left unrepaired, a damaged roofline leads to rot, leaks, condensation, and sagging guttering that can spread into the wider roof structure.

Customer Reviews
Contacted George and he came to visit and recieved his qoute very quickly - I have had several jobs completed by area cladding and the workmanship has been exemplary- with windows - cladding and conservatory improvements- cant fault George and his team and i definitely recommended his work and competitive pricing . Thanks for all the work completed .
Area Cladding round last week to replace 2 door locks. Very friendly and efficient. Great job I chose them because I have had 2 houses of windows replaced over the years and wouldn’t choose anyone else.
I have used Area Cladding Ltd many times in the past for the fitting of windows, doors and external cladding. This time it was two bedroom windows and, once again, George and his team did a brilliant job. The work was done in an efficient and thorough way and my rooms were left exactly as they had been found. I would highly recommend Area Cladding Ltd for this type of work.
Area cladding are a 5 star company. We have had a conservatory built by them and they provided a wonderful service. My parents also had windows and doors provided by them 30 years ago and they are still in great condition. Recently my mum had a problem with the lock on the door and they came within a few hours and fixed it. Area cladding are a top company and i give them the highest recommendation.
Absolutely thrilled with the double glazing windows installed! The team was efficient, fast, and a real pleasure to have around - super pleasant, professional, and even a bit of fun. The windows look fantastic and have already caught the attention of several neighbours asking who did them and if they can get a quote too! It’s clear these guys know what they’re doing. Highly recommend - great work and great people.
Highly recommend Area Cladding! We used them for windows, doors, cladding, fascias/soffits and guttering in March 2025 on recommendation from family and now pass that recommendation on as they are fantastic! They work hard, to high standards, are clean and tidy, competitively priced and a joy to have around, but what we also appreciate, is their knowledge, experience and network, as they have provided us with great support and advice and also contacts for other work we are looking to have done - thank you George, Jack and Jordan and we look forward to having you back again in the future for more home improvements!
uPVC vs Composite vs Timber Roofline
| uPVC | Composite | Timber | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typical lifespan | 25+ years | 25+ years | 15–20 years with maintenance |
| Maintenance | Occasional wash down | Occasional wash down | Repainting every 3–5 years |
| Upfront cost | Lowest | Mid to higher | Lowest material cost, higher lifetime cost |
| Appearance longevity | Colour holds well, foil finishes available for woodgrain effect | Closest match to real timber grain | Authentic but fades and needs repainting to stay presentable |
| Best suited to | Most properties, especially where low maintenance is the priority | Period properties wanting a timber look without the upkeep | Listed buildings or conservation areas requiring genuine timber |
Cladding Materials for Roofline and Walls
Roofline replacement is often carried out alongside cladding work on gable ends, dormers, or full wall elevations, particularly where existing render or timber is failing at the same time as the roofline. These are the main cladding materials we install:
Signs You Need Roofline Replacement
Our Roofline Replacement Process
1. Survey:
We check the condition of your existing fascia, soffit, guttering, and verge, measure roof area, and confirm access requirements.
2. Strip-out:
Old boards and guttering are removed, and the timber structure behind them is inspected for rot before refitting.
3. Fitting:
New fascia, soffit, bargeboard, and guttering are fixed in place, with gutter fall and outlets set to match drainage needs.
4. Sealing and ventilation checks:
Joints are sealed, and soffit ventilation is checked to confirm air can move through the roof void as intended.
5. Water flow test and sign-off:
Guttering is tested to confirm it drains correctly along its full run before the job is signed off.
What Affects the Cost of Roofline Replacement
Years Experience
Roofline for Cambridge's Period and Conservation Area Properties
Large parts of central Cambridge, along with many South Cambridgeshire villages, sit within conservation areas, and some properties are listed. This can affect roofline replacement in two ways: the council may require like-for-like materials and colours rather than a change in appearance, and in some cases planning permission is needed rather than the work falling under permitted development rights. Painted timber fascias on a Victorian terrace, for example, may need to be replaced in a matching profile and colour rather than switched to a different style, even where the material itself (uPVC instead of timber) is acceptable.
We check conservation area and listed status as part of the survey and advise on what's achievable before you commit to a specification, rather than after materials have been ordered, giving you Cambridgeshire uPVC rooflines that stay within the rules from the start.
