Area Cladding fits doors, windows, conservatories, roofline systems and wall cladding across Cambridge. Our surveyors check each property before quoting, assessing wall construction, existing frames and conservation status, since a period terrace in Histon needs a different specification from a new-build in Cambourne.

Every quotation sets out the exact product, material and price in writing, confirmed before a deposit changes hands. Manufacturer guarantees from approved suppliers, including Swish, Liniar, Warmcore, Door-Stop and James Hardie, back every installation we complete, from a single window replacement to a full conservatory build.

Our Home Improvement Process

Every project follows the same clear sequence, from first enquiry to final sign-off, with cost and timescale confirmed at each stage.

1. Enquiry and survey:

A homeowner contacts us by phone or online form, and our surveyor visits the property to assess the exact requirement.

2. Design and quotation:

Our surveyor recommends products, materials and colours, and we issue a written quotation covering price and specification for the project.

3. Order and scheduling:

Once a homeowner accepts the quotation, we then order the confirmed products from approved suppliers and schedule the installation date.

4. Installation:

Our installation team fits the doors, windows, conservatory, roofline or cladding on the agreed date, protecting floors and furniture throughout.

5. Sign-off and guarantee:

A final inspection confirms the exact finish and function, then we hand over the manufacturer and workmanship guarantee in writing.

Area Cladding round last week to replace 2 door locks. Very friendly and efficient. Great job I chose them because I have had 2 houses of windows replaced over the years and wouldn’t choose anyone else.

I have used Area Cladding Ltd many times in the past for the fitting of windows, doors and external cladding. This time it was two bedroom windows and, once again, George and his team did a brilliant job. The work was done in an efficient and thorough way and my rooms were left exactly as they had been found. I would highly recommend Area Cladding Ltd for this type of work.

Area cladding are a 5 star company. We have had a conservatory built by them and they provided a wonderful service. My parents also had windows and doors provided by them 30 years ago and they are still in great condition. Recently my mum had a problem with the lock on the door and they came within a few hours and fixed it. Area cladding are a top company and i give them the highest recommendation.

Absolutely thrilled with the double glazing windows installed! The team was efficient, fast, and a real pleasure to have around - super pleasant, professional, and even a bit of fun. The windows look fantastic and have already caught the attention of several neighbours asking who did them and if they can get a quote too! It’s clear these guys know what they’re doing. Highly recommend - great work and great people.

Highly recommend Area Cladding! We used them for windows, doors, cladding, fascias/soffits and guttering in March 2025 on recommendation from family and now pass that recommendation on as they are fantastic! They work hard, to high standards, are clean and tidy, competitively priced and a joy to have around, but what we also appreciate, is their knowledge, experience and network, as they have provided us with great support and advice and also contacts for other work we are looking to have done - thank you George, Jack and Jordan and we look forward to having you back again in the future for more home improvements!

Frequently Asked Questions

Home improvement is the process of repairing, upgrading or enhancing a home to improve its comfort, appearance, functionality and value. Common projects include replacing doors and windows, building a conservatory, installing roofline systems, fitting external wall cladding, and other interior or exterior work.

Homeowners take on these projects for different reasons: to modernise an ageing property, improve energy efficiency, reduce ongoing maintenance, or adapt a home to changing needs, such as a growing family or working from home. The end goal is usually a home that's more practical to live in and, in many cases, more valuable if the owner decides to sell.

Renovation usually means restoring or refreshing something that already exists, whereas home improvement is a broader term that also includes adding new features or space that weren't there before.

Small internal jobs (decorating, replacing a kitchen) typically don't require permission, but extensions, loft conversions, and some external changes may need approval from your local council, depending on the size and location of the property.

This depends on the project, the local property market, and how well the work is done. Kitchens, bathrooms, and added space tend to have the strongest effect on resale value, though costs and returns vary by region.

We provide home improvement services across Cambridge and the surrounding towns and villages throughout Cambridgeshire, with additional coverage in neighbouring parts of Suffolk, Essex and Hertfordshire. Our service area includes Cambridge, St Ives, St Neots, Newmarket, Haverhill, Royston and many other nearby locations. You can find the full list of towns and counties we cover in the Areas We Cover Around Cambridge section above.

A straightforward casement or flush sash replacement takes one day per two to three windows. We complete a full house re-glaze on a typical terrace, including bay windows, within three to five working days.

Flush sash windows sit flat within the frame, replicating the traditional timber sash profile many conservation areas require. Confirmation still comes from the local planning department for the specific street, since requirements vary across Cambridge's conservation boundaries.

Composite doors combine a timber core with a UPVC or GRP skin, giving greater rigidity and a wider range of paint-effect finishes. UPVC doors cost less and still deliver strong thermal performance, suiting budget projects and secondary entrances.

French doors and bi-folding doors both open without swinging into the room, freeing up patio space on a narrow plot. Sliding patio doors offer the same benefit with a lower running track for step-free access.

We complete a standard Victorian or Edwardian conservatory on an existing base within one to two weeks. A bespoke design, or a project needing new foundations, extends to three to five weeks.

Localised damage, such as a cracked fascia board or a leaking gutter joint, often takes a section repair rather than a full replacement. Widespread rot or ageing PVCu across the roofline points toward a full roofline renewal instead.

UPVC cladding costs less, needs no repainting, and suits smaller elevations or budget-led projects. Hardie board cladding uses fibre cement, carries more weight and rigidity, and holds a painted finish for longer on larger elevations.

Cladding suits gable ends, extensions and dormer cheeks on period properties, rather than full street-facing elevations inside a conservation area. Our survey confirms where cladding fits within any local planning constraint before work starts.
